Who Conducts State Elegibility Test (SET) in Tamil Nadu?

Bharathiar University, Coimbatore conducts State Eligibility Test (SET) for Lectureship.

For what SET ?

State Elegibility Test (SET) or State Level Elegibility Test (SLET) is an elegibility test conducted by Bharathiar University for the selection of candidates for the post of lectures in various colleges in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

How Frequent SET Exam is Conducted ?

Though the frequency of the examination should be twice in a year as UGC- NET, at present its not followed and the announcement and results of the examination is always surprise.


Exam Pattern of Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test (SET) for Lectureship
  • The written test consists of three papers. The first and second paper will have time duration of one and a half hours.
  • The first paper comprises of 60 questions. The candidates have to answer only 50 questions from the given questions. Each correct answer is awarded two marks.
  • The second paper consists of only fifty questions. The marks awarded for the exam is 100. The question format is objective type with multiple choice questions.
  • The third paper consists of 200 questions and the time allotted for the exam is two and a half hours. Third paper consists of descriptive type questions and the questions are asked from the specialized subjects of the candidates.

Eligibility to wrtie Tamilnadu State Elegibility Test (SET)

The candidates who have a Masters Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with 55% marks can apply for the test.
he candidates can apply for the lecture ship programme of the subjects they studied in their Post Graduation.
SC, ST candidates need to secure 50 % marks in their Post Graduation course. The candidates who are ready to appear for their final year’s exam can also apply for the test.

Age Limit for the SET Exam

There is no upper age limit prescribed for appearing for the exam.

Can the Candidates posses UGC- NET apply for SET ?

Yes they can applu for SET too. There is no restriction.

Application & Fee

The format of the application form will be in the exam notification. Candidates can download the application form from the official website of the University www.b-u.ac.in.

The candidates have to pay the exam fee in the form of a crossed bank draft.

The cost of the exam fee is Rs.1000 for the general category candidates, Rs.750/- for other backward category candidates and Rs.250/- for the SC/ST and the physically handicapped candidates.
