Mayan Calendar, End of the World, NASA and The BIBLE

We read in news papers that people of the United States are busy with purchasing Life Shelters to secure their lives from the expected world disaster. Chinese are aware of getting candles for them as they strongly believe that there will be a 1 1/2 hours consisting night on December 21st, 2012. Russians have stored food and necessaries for life as they believe there will be continuous night through out the world. What is the reason behind these all incidents, that is the well known Mayan Calendar. In this post I am going to give a nutshell about all the facts concerning with Mayan Calendar.

Mayan Civilization : An introduction 

Mayan Civilization is one of the significant civilizations of the world . Most of the famous civilizations like Sumerians Civilization, Indusvalley  Civilization are famous because of the people, culture and buildings. But this Mayan Civilization got its name for its Calender System.

This Mayans belongs to 500 BC. They lived in the land area between modern Mexico and South America. This place is called as Mesoamerica, Gautamala, Veracraz, Cazoca and Chapos. 

Mayan Calendar System : Prediction about the end of world

Mayans were the first people to leave sources in an organized form for the future use. They wrote all their events, lifestyle, astronomical knowledge and Calendars in stone inscriptions and potteries. Mayan Calendar evolved through four different ages and types. 

1. Tzolk'in Calender : Also called as Sacred Round Calendar, first ever used calender used by Mayans. It had 260 days cycle period. The entire 260 days were divided into 13 divisions. 13*20=260.
2. The Haab Calender : It was more or less similar to our present day Gregorian Calendar. This calendar had 360 days cycle and 5 special nameless days.
3. Calendar Round : Combination of Tzolk and Haab calendars. It covers 18,890 days a time period of 52 years.
4. Longest Count Calendar : This is the final calendar designed by the Mayans and covers 5,125.36 years. Also called as "Great Cycle".  

The Longest Count Calendar is the center of talk for years and it is believed to had its beginning on August 13, 3114 BC and ends on 21st December 2012.

What science says about Mayan Calender ?

The scientist has not denied the Mayan Calendar system as a completely fake one. Though they respect the Mayan Calendar, they don't believe the concept of the end of world. Scientists points out the following events, they may occur on the predicted 21st December 2012. But no end of the World.

• A winter solstice will happen on 21st December 2012
• Sun realignment : For the first time in 25,800 years the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. But this won't effect the earth, with that a new Great Cycle will begin.
• Polar Shift : A polar shift which means a reversal of the north south magnetic poles, this event can take  5000 years to complete.
• Colliding with Planet X : Nibira Planet may be colliding with the earth on the Mayan predicted 21st December 2012. This will cause the end of the earth. 

What NASA says about Mayan Calender Prediction ?

NASA and the US Government completely rejects the Mayan Calendar based myths. NASA scientists says that the only believable reason for the end of the world may be Planet X and Earth Colliding. But now this is not possible as there is no chance for that kind of colliding today. But it may be possible if it was 4 years back.
